Algemeen
Maarten Kunst (Oudenbosch, 1978) heeft Nederlands Recht gestudeerd aan de Katholieke Universiteit Brabant, waar hij in 2001 afstudeerde in de strafrechtelijke afstudeerrichting. Daarna werkte hij bijna vier jaar als jurist bij het Uitvoeringsinstituut werknemersverzekeringen. Dit combineerde hij met een studie Psychologie aan de Universiteit van Tilburg. In 2006 rondde hij de master Psychologie en Geestelijke Gezondheid cum laude af. Met ingang van september 2006 is hij in dienst getreden bij het International Victimology Institute Tilburg als promovendus/onderzoeker.
In mei 2010 is hij gepromoveerd op het proefschrift met de titel “The Burden of Interpersonal Violence: examing the psychosocial aftermath of victimisation”. Hierin doet hij verslag van een (deels longitudinale) studie naar de psychische en sociale gevolgen van interpersoonlijk geweld onder slachtoffers die in 2006 een claim indienden bij het Schadefonds Geweldsmisdrijven in Rijswijk.
Onderzoek
Naast zijn werkzaamheden als promovendus heeft hij onder meer onderzoek verricht naar onderlinge agressie en geweld bij gevangenispersoneel en de psychische gevolgen daarvan, preventie van herhaald slachtofferschap en de gevolgen van slachtofferschap van fraude.
